This exhibition features new work by Helen Durant. Known for her mixed media paintings of wildlife, her relationship with the natural world informs her practice. Durant’s portrayal of animals captures the feeling of a chance encounter in the wild, a fleeting moment of recognition between a person and a fellow creature of this planet.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Jon for over 20 years, and from our very first meeting in Dean and DeLuca’s on Broadway and Spring Street, until right now, he has continued to evolve and deepen in both his artistic search and in his personal growth.

Diehl Gallery is pleased to announce the acquisition of Geronimo (FS II.384), a signed and numbered edition print by Andy Warhol from the infamous Cowboys and Indians series.

The title of this exhibition came naturally from a conversation I had with Ray Phillips about a month ago. One of my observations about his source material was that it seemed all over the map, drawing on everything from Magritte to old Western movies to everyday objects.

In this artist spotlight, Diehl Gallery Director Devin Hardy interviews the gallery's newest artist, Juan Carlos Collada. The following is just a snippet of the larger conversation about Collada's childhood, his inspirations, pieces of advice, and what informs his practice.

JenMarie Zeleznak is known for her ethereal works in watercolor pencil and graphite pencil that explore emotion and interpersonal connection. She uses wild creatures to translate the human experience and to visually express the energy that she believes links all things in the cosmos. These pieces tell a universal story, one that intertwines us all as individual but connected beings.

In this exhibition, Robert Mars dexterously navigates three seemingly disparate styles. He blends Pop Art with abstraction and throws in a nod to traditional American Folk Art to create this stunning and stimulating body of work. Diehl Gallery is pleased to present, Idols & Abstractions.

For over 20 years, Monica Aiello has explored the outer reaches of our galaxy from her studio in Denver, Colorado.
In our current featured viewing room on Artsy, we wanted to highlight two distinct bodies of work. While Aiello has predominantly looked beyond our own atmosphere for inspiration for her mixed media pieces, in 2017, she turned the lens 180 degrees and began to focus on earth.

Kelly Carrol’s idea of bringing sculpture to life was conceived in the 70’s, when she and a friend hatched a plan to create a site-specific piece for MOMA’s sculpture garden in New York City.

When we first discussed the exhibition with Jason Rohlf, he said he wanted to name the show “Spooky Action”, referring to quantum particles that prove parallel universes are possible. Because it feels like we are in one at this moment. Who are we to argue with that?

In addition to available works in the gallery inventory, this exhibition includes new works on paper, Shop Rag paintings, and a new body of works, the Thai Carton series.

Over the last 10 years, Shop Rag paintings have become an integral part of Rohlf's daily studio work. They begin as loosely woven muslin towels, used to gather shapes and patterns along side larger canvases. They wipe brushes and palette knives, collecting all of their amazing colors and textures. As the paint covers the “rag”, its gift as a tool transforms the piece into a painting. 

Of the Thai Carton series, Rohlf says his teenage daughter showed him how to turn the cartons into DIY plates. He loved the geometric form so much that he saved the cartons, unfold them, sanded and primed them, and then made patterned pieces on them. The themes of these works bring to mind energy fields and sound waves. Some have metal leaf layered in them, giving an elevated status to an otherwise ordinary, disposable item.

The titles of the paintings in this exhibition are derived from various mythical characters referring to rivers, space, sleep, and planets - a reminder of our place in the universe.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic and the gallery's closure for the foreseeable future, we are working hard to keep our artists and the gallery afloat. These are unprecedented times. We hope those of you who are in a position to do so, will continue to support artists and the arts through the acquisition of new art.

The idea of remaining afloat spurred the concept for an exhibition focused on flight, who - or what - flies, flying during these difficult times, technology and its relationship to flight, and of course the fact that our non-human companions on this planet are likely oblivious to our plight.

The works included in FLIGHT examine the concept of flight, not only that of birds and butterflies, but also satellites. Monica Aiello's mixed media painting of the Town of Jackson and studies of the National Elk Refuge and Blacktail Butte as seen from satellites in space offer a unique and interesting perspective. Other works in this exhibition include sculpture by Claire Brewster, Matt Devine, Ted Gall, Gwynn Murrill, and Chris Reilly; paintings by Susan Goldsmith, Peter Hoffer, Jeremy Houghton, Anastasia Kimmett, KOLLABS, Douglas Schneider, Hunt Slonem and Les Thomas; and Dennis Hlynsky's still photos taken from his videos of birds and moths.

Diehl Gallery presents a new exhibition of Hunt Slonem’s work that looks at his enduring theme of repetition and multiplicity.  Slonem’s perception of the worlds around him bring out aspects that go unnoticed by the everyday observer.  As noted in The Worlds of Hunt Slonem, Slonem’s “work is characterized by both consistency and variety”.  His multitudes of rabbits, seemingly exploding from the canvas, his lush shimmering birds that beg to be touched, all create a pattern of recognition.

This July, Diehl Gallery will transform into a sculpture garden with a solo exhibit of works by celebrated Austin-based sculptor Caprice Pierucci. Starting July 21, the gallery’s exhibition space will be splashed with intricately carved, woven wooden forms and lace-like wooden tapestries.
